In 2003 the Commonwealth of Massachusetts created regions throughout the state for its 351 cities and towns under the newly established Center for Emergency Preparedness. Emergency Preparedness Region 4A is comprised of 34 cities and towns in the Boston metro-west area that share regional plans and resources for public health emergency response.
